Mexican food at Underhuset, Sakrisøya
Lofoten is known for its rich fishing history, which is often reflected in the cuisine. Finding an alternative can be limited, but there’s a secret hiding at Sakrisøya, which I’m delighted to say is one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever experienced (and I’ve tried a lot!).
Underhuset is a place where authentic, home-inspired Mexican food is given the slightest of Norwegian touches by Tomas Morales, who now calls Lofoten his home. The flavours on offer represent Tomas’ roots, and his fantastic menu celebrates Mexico's vibrant and bold flavours, reimagined in the stunning setting of an old fish cannery in the heart of Lofoten. This restaurant is a perfect option to indulge in the true taste of Mexico, crafted with passion and staying true to its origins, whilst having a fiesta with Norway. The reindeer guacamole is one particular appetiser I highly recommend.
